Public Portals

A homeowner login with no password to forget

Customers will not create an account to look at an invoice. Gaffer's homeowner access uses a magic link sent to their email — they click it and they are in, seeing their jobs, quotes, invoices and documents for the properties you have worked on.

How homeowner accounts work in Gaffer

Email-based access, so the barrier to a customer actually using it is close to zero.

No password

Access is by magic link sent to the customer's email. Nothing to create, nothing to reset, nothing to be the reason they phone you instead.

Their whole history

Once in, the homeowner sees the jobs, quotes, invoices and documents that belong to them, across the properties you have worked on.

Fewer 'can you resend' calls

The certificate from eighteen months ago is something they can retrieve themselves, which is most of what those calls are.

What you get

Homeowner accounts sit alongside the customer portal, quote acceptance and invoice payment pages.

  • Magic-link sign-in sent to the customer's email address
  • No password for the customer to create or reset
  • Access to their jobs, quotes, invoices and documents
  • Covers multiple properties under the same person
  • Rate-limited link sending to prevent abuse
  • Works alongside the token-based customer portal
  • Reduces inbound calls asking for copies of documents

Common questions about homeowner accounts

How is this different from the customer portal?

The customer portal is reached through a signed link you send for a specific job, quote or invoice. Homeowner accounts are a persistent login the customer can return to, which suits repeat domestic customers with service histories.

Is a magic link secure?

The link is sent to the email address on the customer record and is rate-limited to prevent abuse. It is the same mechanism used by many banks and services for low-friction access, and it avoids customers reusing a weak password.

What can the customer actually see?

Their own jobs, quotes, invoices and documents. Access is scoped to that customer, so they never see anything belonging to another of your customers.

Does this cost extra?

No. It is part of the platform, like the customer portal, quote acceptance pages and invoice payment portal.
