Invoicing & Payments

Invoice in the currency your customer actually uses

Most Gaffer businesses bill in sterling, but not all of them. Currency and locale are set per business, so amounts, dates and number formats render the way your customers expect rather than being anglicised on every document you send.

How multi-currency works in Gaffer

Currency and locale are business-level settings that flow through every document.

Currency per business

Set the currency code your business trades in and it applies across quotes, invoices, reports and the mobile app.

Locale as well as currency

Locale is set separately, so number and date formatting follow local convention rather than being derived from the currency alone.

Consistent everywhere

Because it is a business-level setting rather than a per-document override, documents cannot drift out of agreement with reports.

What you get

Currency settings apply across quoting, invoicing, payments and reporting in one platform.

  • No per-document currency juggling to get wrong
  • Configured once in business settings

Common questions about multi-currency

Can I invoice different customers in different currencies?

Currency is set at business level, so a single Gaffer business bills in one currency. Businesses that genuinely trade in two currencies usually run them as separate entities, which also keeps VAT and reporting clean.

Does this convert between currencies?

No. It sets the currency your business operates and invoices in. It is not an FX tool and does not apply exchange rates to individual transactions.

Why is locale separate from currency?

Because they are genuinely different things — an Irish business and a UK business both handling euro-or-sterling amounts still format dates and separators differently. Keeping them separate avoids guessing one from the other.

Does UK VAT still work?

Gaffer's VAT handling, CIS deductions and MTD-ready VAT summaries are built around UK requirements. If you are trading outside the UK tax system, check that the finance features match your obligations before relying on them.
